  • Wounded Wardrobe Romhack Released

Adds Swoon Sprites to Final Fantasy V (SFC)

xJ4cks is the producer of the Clean series of mods and is a core member of the translation team for FFV: Heroine Trilogy. You can follow the work of xJ4cks here or check out his bio here.

Says hack author xJ4cks in his blog post here:

Project to hack in custom “wounded” sprites for the FFV heroes when they are Knocked Out. The working title is “Wounded Wardrobe”.

Has two phases: 1) control the palette change so that it doesn’t always revert to Freelancer colors; 2) insert new sprites upon KO, versus always using the same sprite.

You can find the hack publication on Romhack Plaza here.

  • Departed Developer UnsolidSnake’s Achievements Taken Down as “Unwelcome Concepts”

Muted Just for Saying There Is a New Alternative for Playing Those Achievements

Were these achievements justified to be demoted?

    Some users speak out.

Muted for Response in the Set’s Official Forum Topic

Well, thanks for showing why I want nothing to do with this site anymore.

If anyone actually likes them, I have a significantly improved implementation. Message me if you are interested.

The site mute was handed down even though the alternative was not even mentioned by name.

A site-muted user cannot post in the forums or even respond to direct messages on the site.

Was a site mute even warranted here? What forum rule was broken anyway?

  • PSA: To All Non-Romhacker Idea Peddlers

    Warning: May Contain Satire

Adapted Heavily from an Atari-Age Homebrew Stickied Forum Post by vdub_bobby here.

    To All Non-Romhacker Idea Peddlers:

Romhackers already have more ideas than they know what do do with; without any of yours.

    They don’t need your ideas.

Probably most of them don’t want your ideas.

Most romhackers have more ideas already than they have time to begin, let alone complete.

That having been said, if you want a romhacker to even consider your idea for thirty seconds, what do you need?

The most important thing is: do some work.

Have either a proof of concept for your idea, or a portfolio of your prior projects.

If your idea is accompanied by neither, do not expect anyone to take you seriously if you are asking for others to join your project.

Just ask yourself: would you take such a person seriously?

  • FFIV: Stasis Released

Romhack of Final Fantasy IV EasyType (SNES)

Says hack author El Forko in an RHDN submission here:

This mod provides a fairly substantial overhaul to the mechanics, items, spells, and monsters of Final Fantasy 4, while leaving the world and story intact. My goal was to preserve the general feel of the original game, while making the battles and resource management more interesting.

    • Character stats have undergone major changes: Defense and Vitality have been vastly improved and a single Evade stat has replaced the other defensive stats. Magic Defense is now a single stat that mitigates a percentage of magic damage. Will now determines how strong Summons are in addition to White Magic.
    • Levels and XP are gone: your characters now have the same base stats throughout the game.
    • All weapons and armor have been redesigned. Equipment is now the only way to boost your characters’ stats, and choosing your armor provides more flexibility in how you prioritize and build your characters.
    • All enemy stats have been adjusted, and some enemy behavior has been changed.
    • The physical damage algorithm has been rewritten.
    • The power and cost of all spells has been adjusted, cast times have been removed, and some spells have been altered in other ways. Certain spells are now learned from NPCs.
    • The end-game experience has been changed to be a bit more open-world: the Sylph and Summons cave are now about as difficult as the Lunar Subterrane is, and the optional bosses have been redesigned.

This mod was designed to be a bit harder than vanilla, but not a crazy hardcore level of difficulty.
