    Preview of the site redesign

Says Kaffe, web designer of New Game Plus (NGPlus), in an announcement post here (emphasis added):

A lot has changed since the old forum era. Most discussion now happens in chat rooms, and for us that mainly means Discord. Because of that, this site has been rebuilt with a very deliberate focus. We did not try to replace every old feature just for the sake of replacing it. We started with the essentials and built around hosting the content cleanly.

    That means:

    • the site is back in a rebuilt form
    • mods have cleaner dedicated pages
    • releases and downloads are easier to browse
    • maintainers now have a cleaner GitLab-based workflow behind the scenes

The new setup also gives us a much steadier foundation. Instead of leaning on a pile of moving parts that need ongoing care, this site is now a static homepage hosted through GitLab [i.e., no forums]. That means less infrastructure to maintain, fewer things to break, and a setup that can be moved or rebuilt without much drama. There was more upfront work to get here, but the goal is simple: an infrastructure-light, near-maintenance-free site that works from day one and keeps working.

    ….

Just to be clear, the community itself did not disappear while the old homepage aged out. NGPlus stayed alive through the people in it, the mods, and the conversations that kept happening elsewhere [i.e., in Discord]. What is returning here is the public-facing window: a cleaner, steadier place to host the work and point people toward it.

Although completion of the site redesign seems to be a positive for the New Game Plus community, one caveat appears to be that the longstanding forums appear to have been taken offline.

Example recent forum link no longer functional: https://ngplus.net/index.php?/forums/topic/992-ffvi-t-edition-lua-translation-v307-297-costume-stats-system-still-available-42926/

    Update on July 10

A read-only forum archive has apparently been reinstated courtesy of Kaffe.

So, what do you think? Were you a user of the New Game Plus forums? Do you agree that Discord is an adequate replacement?
