An early build of the Dragon Quest: Ablaze mod for Dragon Warrior on the NES has been released courtesy of clymax.

Like all of clymax’s rando mods, it’s a self-randomizer, so just simply reset the game to play a new seed.

You can pick up the release build on Romhack Plaza here.

    Release Build: Features

This build features randomized chests and has been available to Discord members as a preview prior to the release.

Here is more on the randomization involved.

    1. Chest contents in vanilla have been randomized among themselves.
    2. This is not a shuffle, so you can get duplicate chests.
    3. Items not in a vanilla chest can’t be obtained in a rando chest.
    4. Seeding not currently supported but can be via a future update. (Our group has added seeding to many titles including FF II, IV, V, and VI.)

Wings are given at start in case a Magic Key doesn’t drop from the first three chests.

An optional upgrade patch, ReMapped, has a preview available to Discord members. Update: ReMapped standalone has released.

    Development Build: Features

The dev build is on the rotation of mods that can be obtained through our Whirlwind Fiesta annual summer event. For players who do not wish to join the event, do not wish to use Discord, or wish to support the hack author, early access is also available via Game Jolt.

No random encounters unless you hold the B button while walking.

The bridge to Charlock is pre-built.

Poison tiles and barrier tiles no longer bring your health below one.

Experience has effectively been boosted to 20x. Same for gold.

    Stairs are taken automatically.

More and better features can be developed if there’s sufficient player interest, so check it out today!

What do you think? Do you think the early DQ entries still hold up today? What’s your fondest memory of playing a DQ game?

  • English Full Translation of FFV: Heroine Trilogy

    FF5r-IC Definitive

For the related menu translation, see here. For the game notes, see here.

To see the translation projects diagrammed, see here.

An English full translation has been completed for waterga’s definitive mod of ff5aki’s Remix mod of Final Fantasy V courtesy of a translation team of clymax, xJ4cks, and BladePotato.

The translation hack is currently available only as a private mod for our player community, namely, those with the Crystal Warrior role in Discord. An online patcher for the private mod is available to our player community courtesy of xJ4cks.

This mod is known as FF5r-IC Definitive. The mod, which is in Japanese, is available here.

Our localized nickname for this mod is FFV: Heroine Trilogy.

Our localized nickname for Remix (FF5R) is FFV: Autumn Challenge.

Unlike the menu translation, which is built directly on IC, this full translation is achieved by extending Serity’s 5r compatibility bridge to the RPGe translation.

    Says xJ4cks:

Please visit FFV Central if you’re interested in

the Beta release of The Definitive FF5r-IC,

    the turbo-charged upgrade to FF5r!

    • new Jobs, with new Abilities (& entirely new Magic in Disc3)
    • lots of new armor and items, especially in Disc3
    • crazy optional boss challenges throughout the game, plus special leveling areas in Disc3
    • yes, this romhack spans 3 “discs” and you swap roms twice along the way
    • green haired lady MC versus Bartz (just because)

A special webapp can patch all 3 roms, so come on over to playtest and discuss this (arguably excessive) version of FFV!

    • this project is ongoing, and is a joint venture between clymax, me, and BladePotato all contributing our special talents.
